Famara beach is a great place for kitesurfing

Famara beach Lanzarote, is a beautiful place to kitesurf, the best months for constant good winds are from March to September, but

October to April also offer great kitesurfing days. With its more than 4km beach Famara has plenty of space for kiting, and offers

some of the most spectacular views to enjoy while kitting.

The beach is located under the famous famara cliffs, also know as el risco, which over look the village and the island of la graciosa.

The best Lanzarote winds fro kitesurfing are the trade winds or "Alisio winds" in spanish, these winds blow predominantly from the North West,

and these are the best winds to enjoy in famara.

One of the advantages of Famara is that you never get offshore winds which will take you out to sea, or direct in land winds which with the waves,

can make it very difficult as well as uncomfortable to kite in.

The waves at Famara have a swell size between 0.3 and 1m from spring to autumn and in the winter may go up to 4m, making it a paradise

for surfers and wave riding, but even with 4m swell beginners can still go out and have a great time, without getting into the stronger waves.

Famara holds one of the PKRA wave competitions, normally during the month of April and in which you can get to see some of the best kiters

in the world riding, and jumping the waves at Caleta de famara.

As you can see this week is not looking too bad

If you are looking to learn, Famara has plenty of schools officialy certified, where you will receive the best lessons and take advantage of some of the best equipment.

Costanoroeste is one of the oldest if not the oldest school in Famara, offering official IKO courses which will get you on the board in the water in 5 days or less.

So if you dont know where to go and spend your next holiday or looking for a cool spot to kitesurf, great weather all year round and some of the most

impressive scenery around, you know where to go.

Famara also known as Caleta de Famara

is a small fishing village on the North-West of the island of Lanzarote.

La playa de Famara is without doubt the longest beach on Lanzarote and the main attraction of this little village. It has also

become a paradise for surfers and kite surfers a like, and has plenty of room for these water sports as well as the not so sporty

activities like long walks on the beach, sunbathing and relaxing with the family. The beach itself has no facilities, so prepare youself

well with water, food ...

The village is a short drive from Teguise, and offers a beautiful scenery on the way down with the inmense cliffs of el risco looking

over the long sandy beach, straight ahead and to the right as you are driving, and on the left you can see the magestic volcanic

landscape.

The village of famara is great to explore, and it wont take to long, most of the streets are sandy and looks as if they have been taken out

from an old spaghetti western film! The village has most of the facilities needed, a great variety of places to eat and drink, bars and restaurants

overlooking the sea such as Restaurante el risco where you will find delicious food from the island, and can relax after a nice day at the beach.

The accomodation in the town of Famara is composed mainly of small apartments and studies for rent, or surf houses as the surf schools call them.

You will also find some nice bungalows right on the beach which are the perfect place to stay to enjoy the famara beach, they are about 10 minutes walk from the

village and have stunning views of the sea and the cliffs.

The nearby villages also offer bungalows and chalets, where you can rent rooms or the whole house, and if you are looking for hotels you will have to look

a bit further into the large towns in the island.

The good weather all year round and the tranquility of Lanzarote make it an ideal place to practice naturism and nudism.

There are several areas around Lanzarote which have good privacy and are an ideal environment for nudism and naturism.
Famara is one of the pefect beaches to practice nudism, normally at the end of its beach you will find small wind shelters
which are great to get some privacy when practicing naturism and nudism.
This beach is about 4km long, and you normally wont find many people on it, if it is very windy you will of course have
to deal with a few kitesurfers as Famara is the main kiteboarding beach in Lanzarote.

There is no official nudist beach in Lanzarote so it is always good to be cautious, but you will find quite a few people nude
and practicing naturism in several beaches around the island. The main ones are found near the spectacular Papagayo beach,
and there is also a naturist resort there near Guatiza in the north east of the island.

Charco de palo is a small village near Mala with beautiful surroundings and the whole village is a naturist resort, and it is common
to practice nudism, except for in the shops and restaurants, you can enjoy a small nudist beach and other small areas with access to the
sea. There is also a natural swimming pool.

You can find more information on the following websites

Famara is a great place for kite surfing

with its more than 4km long beach, it has an area exclusively reserved for kite surfers!

If you are new to kite surfing and would like to learn, you will find a number of kite surfing schools in famara which can offer you a great service,

most of them are IKO certified so once you finish the course you will be able to kite anywhere in the world.

The best time of the year for

kite surfing

in famara is from May to September, when the Alisio winds start and the star months are July and August.

The rest of the months are also good, but the wind is not so predictable, so be prepared to do other activities if there is now wind, such as surfing or

Lanzorote sight seeing!

Famara is not one of the easiest beaches to learn on, as it does have waves all year round, but once you get your water start going it is a great spot and

you will really be enjoying it.

Famara beach gets pretty bussy in August, as this is the peak holiday season for the spanish, and most of them leave the cities to enjoy south of spain and the canary islands. But even so it is so big you will never find hundreds of kites like you might in Tarifa or other main european spots.

Of course most people enjoy kite surfing in the summer, with the nice sun and warm waters, but in famara you will enjoy the sun all year round, and in december the water will only be around 20 degrees, so if you are learning just put on a thin wet suit and you will not be getting any hyperthermia, another big advantage of famara is that even in the peak season you will still feel it is pretty empty compared to places such as tarifa, and you will be benefiting from lots of space for you and your kite!

Restaurante el Risco
is a real institution in the Caleta of Famara, decorated bye Cesar Manrique it has a real sea atmosphere, overlooking the the cliffs and with view of the islands of La Graciosa, Montaña Clara and Alegranza. It has an outdoor terrace where during the day you can enjoy the fresh air and views or if you prefer indoors you have large glass windows so you don't miss any of the scenery.

restaurante el risco

The tables are simple but comfortable and the service and food are excellent. Most of the menu is made of sea dishes, and you will enjoy some delicious fish, which you can pair with some fabulous wine from the Lanzarote region.

Considered my many one of the best restaurants in Lanzarote.

Prices are very reasonable and quantity is abundant.

Some of the traditional dishes are:

Pulpo a la plancha
Papas arrugadas
Almejas a la marinera
Arroz Caldoso
Pate de marisco

Famara beach is found on the beautiful island of Lanzarote in the canary islands.
Situated on the North West coast of Lanzarote, it belongs to the municipal of Teguise.

Famara beach

is the the longest beach in Lanzarote, as you drive down the the road from Teguise the sight is just impressive, famara is straight ahead and you can admire the sea with the island
of the graciosa on the horizon. What makes famara beach so spectacular are the majestic cliffs called "el risco de famara" that rise to a height of more than 600m and are the first part of the island that rose from the sea 11 million years ago during the miocene epoch.

As you get to the beach you start to see the gleaming white sand which has formed some attractive sand dunes by the road. You will notice the line of red flags, which alert of the danger of the strong atlantic currents which don't make famara the best place for swimming, you will however find that
farama is ideal for learning to surf.

The beach has divided in to three imaginary areas, although there are no signs to inform you, the beginning of the beach is the main area for relaxing, sunbathing, and kids play this part of the beach has some rocks which when the tides go down form small seashore pools where kids will enjoy splashing, exploring and trying to catch little fish.

The middle area of famara beach

is recommended for the surf activities, on a typical summer morning you can find surf schools with up to 30 people in wetsuits and colored lycra T-shirts from the multiple surf schools which are located in samara. The smaller summer waves and length of the beach make it an idle spot for learning, although in the winter wave height can double or even triple and make it a great spot all year round.
Further down the beach you will find the kite surf area. In the summer weekends the sight is beautiful as you see sometimes dozens of colored kites in the sky, surfing and jumping the waves.

Famara beach is perfect for kit surfers of all levels, the best time of the year is from April to October being July and August the months with more constant wind. In the summer the wind is normally very constant, and the waves are smaller, in the winter the larger waves make ideal for wave riding, you can easily walk up the beach and enjoy an amazing wave ride down wind.

The best time of the day for kitesurfing is with low tide as you will enjoy the large sandy beach and shallow waters.

famara beach afternoon

The often windy conditions of this beach may make you love it or hate it, if the day is nice and sunny the wind can make it even more pleasant, but when you often find clouds attracted bye the cliffs the wind can make it quite chilly.

The town of famara has a number of different shops where you can get lessons or rent your equipment. And most of them have certified courses which you get you enjoying surfing and kitesurfing in no time.

The final activity you will find in Lanzarote is Naturism, at the end of the beach you will often find nude people enjoy the sun or lying in the rock shelters which have been built out of lava rocks to shelter on those windy days.

In conclusion famara beach is great for:

-Surfing

-Kitesurfing

-Walking

-Naturism

Childreen and family please visit famara with low winds, otherwise it can be very uncomfortable.
